HIGHPOINT BRADFORD

Our technician making pre-use safety checks and taking in the Bradford Skyline.

Skyrope has recently completed a concrete condition survey on the former Yorkshire Building Society Headquarters in Bradford for our client Solros Group. Highpoint was built in 1972 and designed by the John Brunton Partnership and is a classic example of the Brutalist style of architecture.

The building has been unused for many decades, but work has now started to redevelop the building for residential use.

The Skyrope Access Team spent a week on site carrying out a Façade Condition Survey and removing any dangerous potential dropped objects. The in-depth report we produced will be used to identify locations for concrete repairs required to bring the exterior of the building back up to specification.

The redevelopment of Highpoint is a good example of re-purposing existing buildings rather than demolishing to allow for new build on the same site. This approach minimises the impact on the environment as existing buildings already represent carbon emmisions released during their original construction. This remains stored in the fabric of the building as building materials are not duplicated. To meet our climate target of being carbon neutral by 2050 it is essential that more buildings are reused and adapted.

This is a project that we are delighted to be part of as we are passionate about the environment and doing everything we can to minimise our carbon footprint. A big thanks to all the team at Solros for your support.
